Review: Sahon – Blood Shall Be Paid (2024)

Sahon comes from South Korea and has been going since 1999. “Blood Shall Be Paid” is the band’s sixth album. In addition, the band has released two EPs, so their discography is starting to get long. It’s particularly pleasing with bands coming from countries where metal isn’t exactly prevalent. So I really want to like Sahon and “Blood Shall Be Paid.” But it’s not easy when it feels so incredibly repetitive. The vocals sound more like shouting than controlled growling. The riffs are also very monotonous, and the more I listen to “Blood Shall Be Paid,” the more tired I become. The band has some cool parts, and it sounds decent enough. But that’s where it stops. All in all, “Blood Shall Be Paid” feels like a mediocre album without any major highlights. Especially the vocals and the monotonous riffs bring it down. But it’s fun that a band like Sahon exists, and I hope they find their audience, even if it’s not me.

Released March 8th, 2024 on Brutal Records.
