Review: Mirage – The Sequel (2022)

We’re going back to the 80s – more precisely, to 1982 – when a melodic heavy metal band by the name of Mirage was formed in Denmark. In 1985, the band released their debut album “…and The Earth Shall Crumble”. But the story of Mirage would take a nasty turn that led to the downfall of the band. Mirage was one of those bands that were cheated out of money by their record company when the Danish label Skylight Records ran off with the money and went bankrupt. The band managed to record some demos and one EP and had songs ready for another album before they had enough and called it quits. But now, over thirty years later, the band has reunited, rediscovered the old songs they were supposed to record back then, and actually got them recorded. Resulting in a brand new album called “The Sequel”! So how does it sound when songs over thirty years old are recorded today? Well, not bad. This is 80s melodic hard rock that’s somewhat catchy. The album would probably have been better off released in the 80s since it’s unlikely to pique the interest of many under fifty today. But fans of melodic heavy metal, Muskelrock, and Keep It True may want to give Mirage a try. At least Mirage finally managed to release their debut album. Applause!

Released July 15th, 2022 on From the Vaults.
