Review: Lesson in Violence – No Need for Death (2024)

When a band names itself after a song by Exodus, you quickly understand where they’re coming from. German Lesson In Violence plays old-school thrash metal. But the band isn’t that old. They started in 2019 and released their debut album, “The Thrashfall Of Mankind,” already the following year. Now the band is back with their follow-up, appropriately named “Dying World.” I think Lesson In Violence has done a good job here. They play well, and the production works. The band has come up with a good number of tough riffs, and I like the guitar work on the album. There’s plenty of both fat riffs and good guitar solos here. The problem with the album is that it sounds like too many other thrash metal albums, and I’d be surprised if Lesson In Violence gets much attention. It quickly blends into the crowd of albums from similar bands. But if you want German thrash of the traditional kind, “Dying World” is worth checking out. Minus points for lousy cover art.

Released March 30th, 2024 independently.

Rating: 7 out of 10.
