Review: Against Evil – Give ‘Em Hell (2024)

Against Evil is a heavy metal band from Visakhapatnam in India. The band clearly goes against the grain when it comes to heavy metal, taking a stand against evil by calling themselves “Against Evil.” On the other hand, they chose to name their album “Give ‘Em Hell,” so they aren’t exactly angels.

“Give ‘Em Hell” is Against Evil’s third album. Previously, they released “All Hail The King” in 2018 and “End Of The Line” in 2021. The band’s heavy metal is melodic and mostly played at a fast pace. The drums sometimes resemble power metal, and occasionally, I think much of Against Evil’s music belongs to the power metal genre. However, the vocals are definitely heavy metal.

But the vocals are also the band’s weakest point. Vocals are incredibly important in the heavy metal genre, and even though vocalist Siri Sri sings well, it doesn’t quite hit the mark. In fact, “Give ‘Em Hell” reminds me a bit of more recent Grave Digger. This isn’t entirely positive, as it’s been a good while since Grave Digger released anything truly great. It becomes too generic, and you feel like you’ve heard these types of riffs, songs, melodies, vocals, and lyrics a thousand times before.

So, Against Evil feels very unexciting. With songs titled “Creature Of The Night” and “Killing Machine,” it doesn’t exactly exude originality.
