This British thrash metal band was formed all the way back in 1994. Now, Solitary is releasing their fifth album. The band’s thrash style is reminiscent of what we know from the ’80s and ’90s, the somewhat melodic kind. Honestly, Solitary doesn’t bring much new to the table with “Embrace The Darkness.” Most of it has been heard before, both in terms of riffs and melodies. The band sounds mostly fine, but it lacks that little extra to grab my attention. Richard Sherrington’s vocals are probably what I like least about the band’s sound. There’s nothing inherently wrong with his voice, but the way he sings is a bit too dull. The album’s closing track is a cover of The Exploited’s “Beat The Bastards,” which is also the album’s best track. It sounds energetic and has a cool vibe. On this track, Richard Sherrington’s vocals are quite powerful. So, this band can deliver when they want to. It’s just a shame that their original material doesn’t hold up as well. As it stands, it’s clearly the songwriting that lets Solitary down, at least for me.
Released September 6th, 2024 on Twisted into Form.
