The Chilean thrash metal band Nuclear has released a new EP called “Violent DNA”, featuring three brand-new tracks and three cover songs. Starting with the new material: the band continues in the same vein as their previous album, Murder of Crows from 2020, which I rated a four. It was a solid album, and the same can be said about these three new tracks. This is typical South American thrash metal of the harder variety—fast-paced and brutal.
As for the covers, the first is Foetus Noose by Benediction. It sounds solid, and while Nuclear doesn’t bring anything particularly new to the song, they’ve created a respectable version. Siege of Power by Napalm Death, however, is far more intriguing. Nuclear absolutely nails it here, delivering a fantastic rendition that makes the track their own, offering a tighter and more refined version. The final cover, Into Eternity by Swedish band Desultory, is a song I wasn’t familiar with, but it’s so well-executed that it’s clear I need to delve deeper into Desultory’s work.
Released October 25th, 2024 on Black Lodge Records.
