Spanish band Holycide is here with their third album; “Towards Idiocracy”. I have reviewed Holycide twice before, and both times they landed on a noble seven. It seems like I’m landing there again. Holycide has a style that is very reminiscent of more modern American thrash metal bands and crossover metal. Those who often have a lot of humor in their lyrics and are not afraid to tackle political themes.
Holycide’s previous album focused a lot on Donald Trump, while now they focus on the idiotic society we are heading towards. Here, they address everything from artificial intelligence to the proud internet warriors who sit safely behind their keyboards and complain. There’s a bit of fun with these angry and aggressive lyrics from Holycide, and they fit very well with the band’s aggressive thrash metal. More than before. By the way, it’s not the same lineup as before either. Two out of five members are new. Holycide has both a new drummer and a new guitarist. To me, it sounds like they have found the right people because I have absolutely nothing to complain about either drumming or guitar playing. On the contrary, both drums and guitars sound absolutely great. In fact, I would say that Holycide, on the whole, sounds better than before. Maybe it will be even better next time. Let’s hope so, for this is already pretty good.
Release June 6th, 2024 on Xtreem Music.
