On their seventh album, Cattle Decapitation takes their deathgrind to new horizons. More varied and more melodious than ever before, it remains extremely aggressive, with the band continuing to prioritize animals over humans in their lyrics. Therefore, it feels very coherent when their nihilism permeates everything from music and lyrics to their “2001: A Space Odyssey” inspired cover art. Some grindcore fans might be disappointed by the band’s evolution, but at the same time, this is more accessible for people who don’t want it to be at full throttle all the time. There are still those intense parts, and it’s likely this diversity that makes “Monolith of Inhumanity” so intriguing.
