Accuser, or Accu§er as they stylise it, is a German thrash/groove metal band that began in 1986. The band released six albums in the 1980s and 1990s before changing their name to Scartribe in 2002. In 2008, they reverted to Accuser and have since released another six albums. Rebirthless marks their 13th album, an impressive feat in itself. However, only vocalist and guitarist Frank Thoms remains from the original lineup, with the other members joining after 2000. Guitarist Sascha Stange is the newest addition, joining just last year, and Rebirthless is his debut with the band.
So, how does Rebirthless hold up in their discography? Accuser started out in the 80s with speed and thrash metal, placing them alongside other notable German bands like Kreator, Destruction, and Sodom. Over time, they leaned more towards groove metal. However, in recent years, they’ve reconnected with their roots, which is evident on Rebirthless. The riffs are firmly in the old-school thrash metal style, although the production and overall sound are heavy and modern.
Overall, Rebirthless delivers solid riffs and plenty of energy. That said, no tracks particularly stand out for me—the album maintains a consistent pace throughout. While I gave their previous album a lukewarm 5/10, Rebirthless represents a step up for the band.
Released November 21st, 2024 on MDD Records.
