Recently, a rumor has been spreading about a documentary on Iron Maiden coming to Netflix in March 2025, despite the fact that neither Iron Maiden nor Netflix has announced this.
The news article states: “Netflix has announced the release of a major new documentary on heavy metal legends Iron Maiden, scheduled to premiere in March 2025. The documentary, titled ‘Run to the Hills: The Story of Iron Maiden,’ will offer an unprecedented look into the history of one of the most influential and enduring bands in rock music. Known for their electrifying stage presence, iconic mascot Eddie, and groundbreaking albums, Iron Maiden’s journey has become the stuff of rock legend—and Netflix aims to capture it all.”
The rumor was first spread by a website called Sharebaze.com on October 4, 2024. Since then, many others have picked up and spread the news, including AXS TV, with its millions of followers on Facebook, Bravewords.com, Rockpages.gr, Nuclearblast.com, and hundreds of smaller metal and Iron Maiden fan sites.
So how can we tell that the news is fake? Well, first of all, it’s odd that a small website that has only existed for two months was the first to report such news, when neither Iron Maiden nor Netflix has announced anything. Both Iron Maiden and Netflix are large companies that tightly control this kind of information, and they wouldn’t let such news leak without announcing it themselves. Secondly, the article mentions “renowned music filmmaker David Morgan, who has previously worked on successful rock documentaries.” This David Morgan doesn’t exist—or if he does, he has not made any successful rock documentaries.
Most of all, Sharebaze.com has hundreds of these types of fake news stories. For example, they claim that James Hetfield has left Metallica: https://www.sharebaze.com/2024/09/28/james-hetfield-announces-departure-from-metallica-amid-creative-differences-with/
Sharebaze.com also has a story about Iron Maiden canceling a major tour, which they haven’t. What’s even funnier is that they use a photo of British Lion, the band Steve Harris also plays in. https://www.sharebaze.com/2024/10/07/iron-maiden-cancels-major-tour-appearance-due-to-internal-disputes/
Sharebaze.com is clearly a trolling site, and this time they succeeded in their trolling. Let’s hope people will be more critical of their sources the next time such a piece of good news appears.
