Italian band Malamorte is led by Lord Vampyr, best known from Theatres des Vampires. In Malamorte, they serve up horror stories aplenty. “Omen” is the band’s sixth album, and as the title suggests, it revolves around the 1976 film “The Omen.” The album kicks off with the intro “June 6, 6:00 AM,” the time Damien Thorn is born in the film. The album then delves into tracks inspired by key scenes in the movie, such as “I Die For You,” “The Son Of The Devil,” “Megiddo,” “The Truth Buried In The Cemetery,” and “Kill Damien.” It’s undoubtedly a fun project and a fitting tribute to one of the greatest films of all time. Naturally, it ends up being nothing more than a retelling of the film, lacking any surprises due to the story’s familiarity. So, what about the music? Well, if you’re feeling generous, it might remind you of King Diamond, albeit at a lower level of quality, as Malamorte falls short of the king. Malamorte’s biggest drawback is the programmed drums, which sound artificial. Overall, the production is rather weak, and it wouldn’t surprise me if this was done in Lord Vampyr’s home studio. I rated “God Needs Evil” from 2020 a six here at Hell on Earth, so things are moving in the right direction for Malamorte.
