Them is back with their fourth album, once again presenting a concept album in typical King Diamond style. Naturally so – after all, the band originally formed as a King Diamond tribute band in 2008. Their first three albums constituted a continuous trilogy with a storyline set in the 19th century. “Fear City” continues this narrative, now set in the early 1980s in New York. The sound also leans more towards the 80s, largely due to the use of synths. Particularly in the track “Retro 54” and its accompanying music video – a pure homage to the 80s. In fact, the song can be reminiscent of the band Ghost. Aside from that, Them remains true to themselves. To appreciate Them, you should be a fan of King Diamond; it’s undeniable that the band is heavily influenced by the Danish icon. However, Them also has its own expression, more so than before. Thus, this marks a step in the right direction for Them.
