German band Surgical Strike was founded way back in 1993. If you’re a big thrash fan and haven’t heard of this band, you don’t need to be ashamed. They only released two demos and then disbanded already in 1996. The band reunited in 2014, and in 2016, an EP was released. However, their debut album didn’t come out until 2020. Not bad – just seventeen years after the band started. Now Surgical Strike is even ready with the follow-up; “24/7 Hate.” As usual, I struggle a bit to understand why so many of these bands that didn’t go anywhere in the first round resurface decades later. There’s probably an explanation for it, but so many of these bands have emerged in recent years. Surgical Strike isn’t the worst of these. “24/7 Hate” sounds pretty good. The production is solid, and the band plays well. However, the songs themselves aren’t anything extraordinary. The vocals are also a bit subpar. The guitar work, especially the numerous solos, is solid though. The guitarists show skill and deserve praise. But overall, “24/7 Hate” ends up being just average.
Released March 1st, 2024 on Metalville.
