“The Gates Beyond Mortality” is the second album from Eternal Evil – one of the many newer Swedish bands that adopt a retro style. However, Eternal Evil stands out from the crowd with their version of black thrash. Eternal Evil is more of a blend of 80s thrash metal bands and 90s Scandinavian black metal bands. It’s a solid hybrid of genres. Notably, 19-year-old Adrian Tobar Hernandez has an excellent voice that gives Eternal Evil the distinctive quality it needs. Credit to the Swedes – they have managed to cultivate an entirely new generation of teenagers playing metal. Bassist Niklas Saari also plays in the band Atonement, which released their debut album “Sadistic Invaders” in July of this year, which I reviewed with a rating of seven stars at Hell on Earth Metal Zine. In my opinion, Eternal Evil is even better than Atonement, perhaps because Eternal Evil has more experience and released their debut album “The Warriors Awakening… Brings the Unholy Slaughter!” already in 2021. In any case, it’s just to applaud this group of youngsters. “The Gates Beyond Mortality” sounds incredibly tough.
Released by Listenable Records on 27th of October 2023.
