It’s always exciting to see young talent emerging in the metal scene. A great example is Sweden’s Sarcator, a band made up of members aged 19 to 25, according to Metal Archives. Despite their youth, Swarming Angels & Flies is already the band’s third album. The youngest member, guitarist and vocalist Mateo Tervonen, is the son of Marko Tervonen from the band The Crown. It’s safe to say Mateo has had thrash metal in his blood from the start.
Sarcator’s music shares some similarities with The Crown, but they’ve taken a more blackened approach. Interestingly, the name Sarcator is a fusion of Sarcófago and Kreator, which gives a good idea of their sound.
It’s truly impressive when such a young and hungry band delivers quality like this. While they may not be the most original band, I feel Sarcator is starting to develop their own identity, which adds to their uniqueness. Swarming Angels & Flies is definitely an album worth checking out.
Released January 17th, 2025, on Century Media Records.
