Besta hails from Portugal and plays grindcore and death metal. The band has previously released three albums and a long list of EPs, split releases, singles, live records, and compilation albums. The band’s new album is much closer to death metal than their previous records, which is a positive development as it adds more variety to their sound. This, in turn, makes “Terra Em Desapego” an intriguing album. Many parts are quite cool and rather original for a band of this genre. There is a good amount of interesting guitar work and melodies that elevate the album. The vocals are what slightly brings it down for me. They could be more varied and more forceful. However, I won’t complain; vocalist Paulo Rui sounds quite decent. I noticed the song lengths on the album. All of them are over five minutes, with many passing the six-minute mark. Not that these are excessively long tracks, but it’s rather unusual for a band in the grindcore genre. But, as mentioned, this album is much more oriented towards death metal than before. In comparison, the band’s debut, “Ajoelha-te Perante a Besta,” had a total of 17 tracks and the album was finished in under half an hour.
