Motivik is an American duo playing melodic thrash metal and heavy metal. Courtney Simmons handles the vocals, while Ryan Roebuck takes care of the instruments, except for the drums, which are played by “hired gun” Alex Emidio. The band previously released “Death Of The Gunman” in 2020. The sound on the band’s new album “Renouncement” is alright, but the songs are not very impressive. The melodies are quite boring, and many of the choruses are embarrassingly simple.
The riffs are also unremarkable, typical of ’90s post-thrash metal, where eventually everything starts to sound similar. Unfortunately, Motivik’s new album was a dull experience, and I cannot recommend it. I’m not a big fan of the AI-cover art either, but it’s understandable for small bands that need to save a buck or two.
Release on July 1st, 2024 on Roxx Records.
Aww, I get it- did someone’s cloven hooves get stepped on? 🤣🤣
It’s pretty obvious to anyone who has actually listened to the album you aren’t giving anything but a biased review. The production value on the album is amazing. The guitar work is stellar. The dynamics are awesome. The songwriting is tight. The choruses that you call embarrassingly simple are full of hooks that stick with you for days. Literally anything about the quality of this album is a match made for anyone who is a fan of melodic thrash. Which leaves one category which you didn’t even bother to give even the banal, superficial, biased summary that you gave to every other aspect: the lyrics. Which are strongly Christian, even if not preachy. Hmm. Maybe just too Christian for an «unholy» review? 🤣🤣 Get over it. Metal fans are supposed to have a thick skin.
So, where is your thick skin, since you can’t handle a negative review?
It is very weird that your conclusion for the bad review is that the band is Christians. Like it is impossible to dislike an album, so it most be the only reason why. And even more weird is that you think that I can’t handle that a band is Christian and I need to get over that. Well, you got is so wrong as it is possible. The reason for the bad review is simply that I did not like the album. As I wrote in the review; the music is simply not original enough to be interesting. I have listen to thrash like this since the 80s, and I have heard the same kind of riffs and melodies a thousand times before.
I don’t care if the band is Christian, and the promo I was sent did not have any lyrics. So that is why I didn’t mention it at all.
I guess you are either in the band, are friend of the band, or just a fan. Since you have heard the album before it has been released, I am guessing that you have some connection to the band. However; I am not going to be mean about it. I know a bad review can hurt. So just remember that a review is just one man’s opinion. Don’t take it to seriously. Maybe some other writer will love the album, and give it a good review. Focus on the good reviews instead of getting angry at does who do not like the album.
